"Ive
been fortunate enough to enjoy considerable success online. The key method I

I didnt understand how to do this until I read Shawn Caseys book, Mining

First Word Hi
All! My
thought this week have been drawn to the two fascinating issues of adversity,
and opportunity. At a time when half the Western world seems to be talking
itself down economically, I'd like to share an experience of mine from a
recession in the early 90's. You can read it in the item "When the going
gets rough..." I'm
also in a situation of opportunity, and this week's 'Thought For The Week",
seems to be screaming it's message right at me! Maybe it will give you an
impetus to pursue YOUR dreams. I hope so. Thought

Copy Will Be Smoking If You Use Joints I
was discussing website design with Annette Ramsay of http://www.seriousexcuses.com
the other day, and the subject of copywriting came up. Want to know what one of
the first things we talked about was? Joints.
Joints? Yes, Joints. Not grass, but links from one body of text to the next. Did
you notice how the last line of the previous paragraph asked a question? It was
a question that led you, the reader, naturally on to this paragraph. It kept you
interested. In your own articles, sales letters and copy, try using joints to
link one paragraph to the next; one page to the next. It will pay handsome
dividends "There are no secrets. The networked market knows more than companies do about their own products. And whether the news is good or bad, they tell everyone." Read

Thirty Methods Of Influence
In the Introduction to his classic article 'Thirty Methods of Influence, Stephen R. Covey wrote...
"If you want to gain and build influence with other people, learn to use the following thirty methods of influence.
When The Going Gets Tough...
"The tough get going." It's an old saying, and true. But there's another side to the coin that I've observed over a lifetime of Marketing. It could go something like this..."When the going get tough, most of your competitors cut back on their marketing efforts, and spend a lot of time complaining about how tough things are."
Back in the early 90's, I took over the management of a consumer electronics retail business. Right at the time we entered a recession! The market dropped about 5%, but I adopted a positive viewpoint, which went like this.
"The market has dropped 5%, so there is a market of 95 left. We hold 4% of the market, so to increase our market share by 25%, we only have to take 1% of the other 91%." Put that way, it sounds quite achievable. We set about selecting a better range, training our staff better, obtaining better margins, and promoting better. Within 12 months our sales were up 100%, and our profit even more. When the going gets tough, twist the knife into the opposition who are demoralised!

Diplomacy At a fancy reception a young man was asked by a widow to guess her age.
"You must have some idea," she urged as he hesitated.
"I have several ideas," he admitted with a smile, "the trouble is that I don't know whether to make it ten years younger because of your looks or ten years older because of your intelligence."
