Email Marketing Click-Through Rates Declining

 

If the click-through rates from your email marketing campaigns are dropping, don't be too surprised. Two recent surveys tell you that you're not alone.

 

DoubleClick's Q3 Email Trend Report, reveals a 16% drop in rersponse rates for email campaigns for the Q1, Q2 and Q3 of this year, compared with last year.

 

In a similar vein, an Opt-in News survey of media buyers predicted an 11% drop in B2B email click-through rates, with B2C predicted to drop by 50%.

 

That last figure is almost certainly extreme, but the message seems clear overall. Response rates are dropping. Nevertheless, email marketing is still economical, and it's still effective. Work a bit harder on growing your list, the quality of your list, the quality of creative, and the value of your offer, and you'll be laughing while most of your competitors are still stuck in the marketing past.
